Ive played nearly every Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game, have sunk ~90 hours into Olive Town, and I have to say that while I'm having fun because I'm able to set my own goals as a completionist, it completely 180's away from what the games previously have done that I really played the series for and that makes it very hard for me to like the game itself. It almost fights

If they're charging me 60 bucks for a game, I will NOT pay another 20 for 18 things I do not want, when I should be able to buy the 3 things that I DO want for a couple bucks each. It's a scummy business practice, and I won't support it. It has nothing to do with me not being forced to use them, I'm just not gonna spend 80 dollars on a 60 dollar really is just a matter of perception. It's like paying $20 to go to a convention or a festival; you, personally, are there to see particular acts or artists, but that doesn't mean you're not also paying for the opportunity to see acts or artists you're not there to see, and don't want to see. And you might not want the "goodie bag" or free merch or whatever they're handing out at the door, but those things increase value also. It's about understanding that the things you don't necessarily personally want still add value to the overall product, because there is a market for it, even if that market doesn't include you. If The Beatles are playing a show and some random crappy band is their support act, I'm buying a ticket to see the Beatles, accepting that some of that money is also going towards the support act that I have no interest in seeing and will probably show up after they've finished playing. I'm not emailing the organisers asking if I can just not pay that part of my ticket price because I don't want to see the supporting this case, the expansions to extra places and including other people are the main content people want - that's the meat of the $20 expansion pass. The clothing? That's filler content added to increase value, with an understanding that some people actually do want that stuff. In this case, you have to ask yourself, would you have paid $20 for all the added characters and places and stuff you DO want, if the clothes were never on the table, and you didn't know your $20 was going towards that as well? If the answer is no, $20 is too much for just what you want, great, no worries, just don't get it, same as there would be a price point at which going to a convention or a gig would be too expensive for you or me, or anyone and wouldn't be good enough value, no matter how much someone wanted to see The Beatles play. But if you would pay $20 for the content you want, and you're just mad that price includes stuff you don't want - eh, look around, that's just how things work. I mean, maybe you're the kind of person who emails Netflix asking for a discount on your subscription because most of the stuff they offer is crap you'd never watch, or emails your gym asking for a discount because you've never personally used an elliptical, but my bet is if you looked around at your life and what you spend money on, you're spending money all the time for things you don't want and/or won't use.Don't get me wrong I hate extra paid features as a rule. It's becoming the norm to release games that aren't as good at release compared to the standard set before paid additional content became big, just so they can make you pay even more by putting in features that should have been there to begin with and calling them bonus content. I think it's capitalism on steroids and I hate it.

Lol, what. If they continue to support the game and release DLCs, let's say 5 DLCs within this year and you get all 5 for the price of $20 season pass, how are you NOT saving money? Suppose they do let you buy it separately. You don't want the cosmetics, fine. Let's say they charge $ for new areas and characters. Let's do some basic math x 10 = 50, not including the cosmetics which they could charge $ you sound like a spoiled brat lol. Pretty sure xseed is really gonna miss your $ not a "spoiled brat". I'm just extremely careful with my money. I have 60 dollars, not 80. I am not going through the process of moving around funds for a bunch of dlc I do not want. Also, don't be slinging insults. I asked a question, I got an answer, then you came along and had an issue with me deciding that it wasn't worth 80 bucks. TwinTail304 Topic Creator1 year ago12triangle-kun posted... Nobody cares about your purchasing habits or utter lack of understanding of basic economic telling someone with 60 dollars to pay an additional 20 dollars that don't exist to save money on content that I do not want. I mean, I agree the costumes are a waste of money, but they aren't automatically applied afaik. If you don't want the costumes but really want the DLC content, you can buy the DLC and then just...not use the costumes.Mind you, if you don't think the non-cosmetic DLC is worth it, that's fine. I'm just mildly confused that something you don't have to use - which is a borderline freebie in any case - is enough to turn you off the DLC just because it's included. It's partly the principle of the matter, partly the price, and partly the fact that I don't buy things that I won't use. Borderline freebie or not, I wouldn't pay 5 cents for a costume that I won't use.Sorry for the repost, I just figured I could word that all a bit better.Vyncent12 1 year ago15TwinTail304 posted... It doesn't matter what YOU want, I want, or anyone else wants. Most, if not all, DLCs are barebones AF and doesn't justify the extra $20 at all. I get it. Most times, we put out that extra $20 even though we know the DLCs package is s*** but we do it to support the game and devs aside and going back to my main point. OK, so the devs realize people aren't buying the season pass and want other options. They'll find other ways to milk your money. You only want the DLC that unlocks the new area you say? OK, let's price that $8. The next patch rolls around and it's the same s***. New area with new characters for $8. By the 3rd DLC, you would have paid $24 for just 3 DLCs without the cosmetic if you only bought 2 DLCs, the difference is $4 lol. These are just examples to prove my point but you get the rarely, if ever, buy DLCs because like I said, they're usually super barebones and not worth the $20 but I get it, you want to spend your money "smartly" and "carefully", sure. The costumes were thrown in as a bonus; no one in their right minds is buying the DLC for the costumes, and no one in their right minds would charge $20 for those costumes. So the way I see it, the costumes are just a bonus for buying the DLC and shouldn't even really be considered as somehow ~included~ in the price. I can't see anyone behind the game going "well, without the costumes this would be an $18 pack, let's add them and charge people an extra $2". It's very reasonable to assume that the price tag is 100% for the extra content. All the more so because a lot of extra content DLC is around the same price, whether or not it includes bonus costumes.Obviously what you do with your money is entirely your business, and I suppose anything can be a dealbreaker to someone. But I won't deny it's an extremely weird dealbreaker to me, to refuse to buy DLC not because you don't think the entire package is worth the priceobviously a reasonable objection, but because the DLC essentially comes with costume freebies you don't want and you're extremely offended at being handed bonus content which you absolutely don't have to use you can't opt out of...??? Like, it feels like you were considering buying a $20 pizza and then you became so enraged at their giving people a free drink with those pizzas that you've decided to boycott the pizza never seen someone so angry about what is essentially freebie optional content tossed in with the main features you're paying for when you buy DLC. Obviously it's no skin off my nose what you do, and I'm not encouraging you to get the DLC if you don't want it for any reason, I'm just...taken aback by the unnecessary vehemence over what has to be the smallest issue there is with this game. I should know, I've waxed vitriolic on a bunch of other issues with it. But even I can't muster anger over not being able to opt out of the costumes, despite the fact that I don't want them either.Thank you for coming to my Ted Friend Code 1564-1994-7120 Switch Friend Code 8158-7146-8602TwinTail304 Topic Creator1 year ago17Lymmea posted...
